What is a Great Place To Work?

“A Great Place To Work® is a place where people trust and support each other, take pride in what they do and enjoy working with colleagues.

In more than 30 years of measuring and analysing the workplace culture of organisations, we have found that people experience a great workplace when they consequently

– trust the people they work for,

– take pride in what they do, and

– enjoy working with their colleagues.

Our Trust Model

We lead the industry with one of the most meaningful, data-based models for measuring and quantifying the employee experience: The Great Place To Work Trust Model™. Since 1992, we have surveyed more than 100 million employees around the world and used these in-depth insights to define what makes a great workplace: trust.

The trust model is the global standard

Our 30 years of research has shown that the definition of a great workplace is that employees trust the people they work for, take pride in their work and enjoy working with them.

We put employees at the heart of our model and use it as the basis for our Trust Index™ survey and our Emprising™ culture management platform.

Managers, leading research institutes and the public rely on the Great Place To Work® Trust Model as the authoritative measure of what it means to be a Great Place To Work for everyone.

Credibility

The employees consider the management and the leaders to be credible. The employees’ perception of the communication practices as well as the competence and integrity of the management is evaluated.

Respect

The employees feel respected by the management. It assesses employees’ perceptions of professional support, collaboration and participation in decision-making, as well as the extent to which the management perceives employees as humans.

Fairness

Employees believe that management practices and policies are fair. The equality, impartiality and justice that employees experience in the workplace are assessed.

Pride

Measures how employees feel about their own impact through their work, their pride in the work of their team and their pride in the organisation as a whole.

Camaraderie
Measures whether staff believe that their organisation forms a strong community where colleagues are supportive and where everyone is pulling in the same direction.

Pioneering For All™ methodology

Our For All methodology builds on the trust model by ensuring that each and every employee, regardless of who they are and what they do for the organisation, has a consistently positive experience at work.

Great employers “For All” are able to unleash their potential through effective leaders, meaningful values and a deep foundation of trust with in all employees. If these conditions are met, organisations benefit from more innovation and value creation.

For All means that everyone can accomplish something, that everyone is included and that everyone can do their best.

Developing the potential of all employees

Organisations must be agile, innovative and authentic towards their stakeholders in order to add value and successfully address the challenges of the modern world of work. But this can only be achieved with a workplace culture in which all employees can do their very best and develop their potential.

Trust

Trust – especially between employees and leaders – is the most important asset in today’s work environment. Because even though the business world is changing, people are still people and trust is the universal condition for positive interactions.

Values

Lived values are the principles on the basis of which employees work together in an organisation on a daily basis. Lived values contribute to higher integrity among employees and thus to higher productivity, greater profitability and higher engagement.

Leadership Effectiveness

Only with a sense of purpose, respect, care and fairness across all levels of management, a trust-based workplace culture will be supported by all involved and affected.

Innovation By All

When employees work in an encouraging, inspiring and trust-based workplace culture, the impetus for ideas will increase as well, thus boosting innovation.

Value Creation

Through their motivation and commitment, employees go the extra mile; not because they have to, but because they want to – and have a smile on their face. This creates more value not only in customer interactions, but in all stakeholder relationships. This is subsequently also reflected in the financial key figures. Therefore, by investing in the workplace culture, and thus in the employees, one also invests in higher value creation.
